at least a G4. i'm still on a 400Mhz G4 and it suits me just fine. although faster is always better but that equals more costs. my next machine would prolly not be a G5 but a G4 with a dual processor since they are cheaper. i wouldn't go for the new machines because they are too expensive, prices drop fast, especially when they release a new machine. allright, make sure you have plenty of ram (very important) 256MB is the absolut minimum. but double that to make it more comfortable. and most important: display. my advice would be to not buy an lcd or plasma screen because they aren't that accurate when it comes to colours. and that is really important for print work. sony trinitron's are really good but too expensive. any crt with either a trinitron (e.g. sony) or an diamondtron tube (e.g. lacie, iiyama pro) are good. don't budget on the screen. the bigger, the better. really believe me. i switched from an 19" to a 22" and i'm a really happy boy.
