I think these systems are getting so much power in terms of gpu/cpu processing power (ie. CUDA Cores, memory and primary cores) that this isn't really a fight for a gamer but more for the living room. (which i understand they've been doing for a while). I understand this as a game of 'Services' added. as in which platform adds more valuable services to their base. i wouldn't know how to define a 'serious gamer' between tablet, web and various devices that make games available, but i do know my girlfriend use the 360 everyday for netflix, hulu and amazon prime.
so the XOne makes sense in being a dvr. (if in fact it can fetch cloud based content) Sony i see, is focusing on gaming which as one, gets my attention and most likely my money. but that press conference did have a lot of non related game information.so i can see sony aiming to at the very least inform that they have tv content too.
