I arrive and leave whenever– though usually follow ~9am-6pm... but we crack open beers or whiskey sometime around 5-5:30pm or go to the bar downstairs, so I lose track of time. Though, there is the occasional long night of diligent work.
TBH, brainstorming over beers in the office has often been quite fruitful project/concept-wise, as well as good for building trust and camaraderie with the team.
In previous jobs I've found it takes time to get into a groove - The first 6 months is typically probationary, so it's best to show initiative, great work ethic and not leave early.
After you prove yourself, kick some ass, etc, I've found that you can start loosening up and take off a bit earlier, since everyone knows how much you contribute and how valuable you are for the team. I just think it takes time.... though since my previous boss (ECD) rarely came in to the office, and when she did, left early, it was never an issue.

    • We get to drink after 5 every day as well. It helps.mg33
