Maybe we should stop with the gun law bickering and put this in perspective...
Even at this hour, there are dads and mom's sitting around a firehouse, while their 5 year child still lies dead on a cold floor of their school, waiting to be identified. Some of the parents had to wait alone, as the other was forced to go home, dig through loving family photos and find one, so an official could try to identify the remains. The remains of the children that are currently just numbers 1-20. Kids who didn't even get through their first year of school.
No matter how horrific this is, it is now compounded with it being at Christmas. Think of those parents when they get home and have to see those presents they bought for that happy Christmas morning. Again, somehow pressing a knife already at it's hilt, still deeper.
Think that no matter how much time goes by, and how you never get over the loss of a child, now you will never share Christmas the same way with anyone again.
And don't forget the first responders, who have to deal with this. How do you cope with walking into 20 slaughtered kindergardeners?? How the fuck do you keep it together? This is not adults or even high school or college kids.
I don't know how people live with this. And before anyone pipes up about the horrors in the middle-east, I spend a great deal of time in the place of parents there, too. And I can't image the loss they experience every day. As a parent, I simply can't imagine how you go on.
