My sister had a rat in her attic one time. It was resistant to the poison they were laying down. So they set out one of those HUGE rat traps and waited. One dreadful Sunday morning, there it was. SUH-NAP!! But the rat didn't die, it flopped and squeeled kept running all over the attic with the rat trap around it's head. Her husband wouldn't go get it so my dad came over and pinned it down with a rake and threw it in a trash bag. The rat was still alive when they threw it in a nearby field. Nobody had the guts to run it over with a car...
