    I'm a UX Designer...and it frigs me off the amount of people that...

    A: Think that UX design is a 'new concept'.
    B: Think it's an easy practice to stuff on the resume to make them sound better.
    C: Think that doing a 2 day HCI course makes them a UX pro.

    Back to the original question: No, it doesn't make their talent look limited because UX Design is a perfectly valid skill-set on its own; it's how it's application and value is communicated to the client and how UX best practice is applied to the project. If all the client get's is a pretty but ultimately unintuitive UI backed up with unusable Information Architecture, then there has been a failure in the understanding of what UX is.
