  How come they didn't spot the wee worms as a life form when they trod on them on the way into the room at the start?

  Are the detectors rubbish and can only spot something maybe as large as a goat perhaps, or a seagul maybe? they probably didn't have enough money left over during the funding of the expedition to give the scientists good equipment, they probably blew loads of money on weylands fancy bed sheets.
