I was lucky enough to sit down for lunch with him (and with professors and another student ) after viewing his work and his life story at a symposium at college in 2005? . He had an incredibly inspiring life, he worked in music first he said and then later changed his entire career to interactive design, and founded an agency and became pretty well known for it and with his work with flash. To me meeting him gave me insight that you can start off doing one thing and do another whenever you want to in life. He was doing creative he said for the music cd covers and posters before he started with flash, and he kept that same strong creative personality. One thing I did notice with him was that he was incredibly drained from the amount of work he had been doing at the time. I respected him but I felt like he was having a really tough time with work life balance, the professors commented to him about it. I sympathized with him because it was a life choice, and it seemed like he wanted to rest. But regardless I found him inspiring and more so than any other designer or agency owner that visited the symposium series at the college I attended because he seemed down to earth and human and someone generally likeable for just being himself. RIP Hillman.
