At the end of each year, i buy 2 new external hd's, put everything on them from the year - seal them up and put one in storage (off site) and keep one at home.
also everything is backed up on local servers and 'working' hd's at the office.
early on, i was using only a single hd to keep everything on, it was smashed on accident and i lost it all. never again.
