    What you need to do is dig up any evidence of your job performance. If they thought your work was not good, then there should be ample documentation from your superiors who review your work. If you find that after every project they are saying your work is sub-par, then they might have a case, but I have a feeling you were doing just fine. There are proper ways to fire someone for bad performance, and it's NOT just telling them they're fired. It's a process because companies have to try to improve employees before letting them go. If you truly believe it's just their excuse, then make the case.
