  A lot of these buildings, especially those last few examples, are often built around a very simple steel framework (which at the same time 'dictates' the cubic design). A lot of it is driven by construction costs and time to construct (have you noticed how quickly new buildings sprout up in your areas?).

  • i think software plays a big part too... the panels and textures looks 'impressive' in 3d renderings...sine
