So this gym I goto - it's the cardio / pulmonary rehab gym at the hospital I had my surgery at. I go there 3 days a week and have come to know many of the folks there (the majority of them being 75 and older)...
I was all prepared to talk about tonight's football game (NE Patriots) w/Tom, this pulmonary patient who's from New England, is a programmer and businessman... blah blah blah... hit it off really well w/the guy a while back...
... anyway - got to the gym today and looked for him in the back corner on his usual bike...
... turns out he passed away yesterday while getting ready to goto lunch w/his wife. :( He went pretty quickly... suffered only a moment of a heart attack and was gone.I realize it's a fact of life - we die - especially when we're as sick as he was and at his age... but I goto this gym for maintenance so I can prolong my life - I usually find the place to be a major inspiration (watching 85 year old men throw up a couple of 20 lb weights is inspiring (and often humorous) :) )
RIP Tom.
