  Lived in Hfx for three years; the Split Crow in Granville St on a Friday or Saturday night is always good fun, especially if there's a live show. Otherwise, heading out toward Quinpool Rd can turn up some interesting places to eat (when I was living in the area, there was an Ethopian restaurant that had just opened up).

  The Coast is your friend, though, like sleepy mentioned.
