^ but as "SunSunSun" says, try invoicing them and giving them your unique Tax ID.
if it's the case that in this first time for working with them they didn't say upfront that you need to be a LTD, then explain to them you are a sole trader and in this case could they take your TAX ID as reference and pay you - and then say you'll work as a LTD in the future. If they are half decent they will pay you. and if you do want to work for them again, then consider setting up as LTD.
Natwest have 2 years free business banking on their standard business account. And some umbrella companies offer LTD setup and book keeping/accounting for £75 a month. all you have to do is send them your time-sheets and they do all the invoicing etc for you.
Or you can find an account and do the invoicing yourself. you can setup a ltd for around £30
