Growing a beard is a bit like when a when a dead whale washes up on the beach. At first it's great - people are intersested and can't stop talking about it, taking pictures on their phones and texting others - a real conversation starter. Girls might even want to go up to it and touch it and feel it's texture.
After a few weeks, however, people will start to wonder why it's still there and why it's getting bigger. Surely it should have been cleaned up by now? Apparently there are things living in it and it's gone a funny colour. Why aren't the authorities dealing with it? It's starting to rot and and is scaring the children.
