I was pretty unimpressed by most of the work this year to be honest. For the last few years I have been struggling to defend the turner but it seems to of become completely elitist (and far too expensive!), its one of the main problems with the current crop of modern art. The other one I feel is you need to be in the 'know' to appreciate it. it's all very clever but has little substance? I do find myself thinking the king has got no clothes on....
Compare any piece in the turner to the weather piece at Tate modern. That has to be one of the most amazing pieces of work I have seen in ages, not just for how it looks or the clever concept behind it but the reaction it has had with viewers.
It's a stunning sight made more so by how people react to it and become part of the piece.
