    All you can is promote constant activity and diet; when you're NOT sitting make sure you're running, walking, jogging, biking, swimming, etc. & not just sitting somewhere else...

    I'm going through massive neck and shoulder pains from sitting... & even when cycling I'm still just sitting in a different position...

    Variety IS in fact the spice of life...

    In terms of your younger brother, as unfortunate as this is, you must simply be at his side and take care of yourself; perhaps what DRIFTMONKEY mentioned about a better, ergonomic office chair, my fiance & I both have Herman Miller's and they seem to at least help with pain/stress...
