    I'm going to go ahead and suggest something different.
    I stay in hotels in LA fairly often when I'm there for work, and in order to make money I need to watch where I stay, no shame in that.

    I have stayed at both standards and a couple more that are indeed nice, but lately I've been going here:

    Kyoto Grand Hotel




    It's in my opinion, on one of the most interesting areas in LA, you will be near the best and more authentic sushi/ ramen places in the west coast (with the exception of japan town in SF).

    It's a quiet nice little area, for walking around and taking interesting photos too, and you can find rooms there for under $200 bucks.
