mate, if you are wondering if you gotta do it is that most likely you have/need to.
you don't need to spend 15k, but you could, and nothing will happen. it's just money. one of my friends sold his house and travelled around the world for 2 years or so.
i travel/travelled because of work quite a lot, and spent a reasonable amount of money of 'topping up' the travels i had to do.
