    That's true, but remember it wasn't too long ago that Apple was bankrupt (and Gates saved them, ironically).

    I would think they'll keep the name and separate identity. MS is boring, no sex appeal, and that is something they desperately need. Nokia has at least a little, more than most you could argue.

    Also, a merger would require share holder approval, which would, most likely, cost them their most of their (MS) cash. I doubt many MS share holders would let that happen.

    Who knows, though. Execution is the big question (in my mind). I agree it is a long shot for great success, but let's be honest here, neither company really has a choice.
    Neither company has a great record, although WP7 is at least an interesting point of departure.

    We'll have to see what WallSt says tomorrow ;-). In the short term, that's where the decisions will be.

    • Nokia has connotations of 2nd gen mobiles, they'll need a rebranding to competeAncillary
    • We'll see, anything is an improvement over MSformed
