    Is the circle necessary? Maybe try lines that correspond with the marks on a compass? Or some other way to infer the compass outline?

    Also I understand that the "serifs" on the M are supposed to be the lines that divide NESW but I find they get a little lost.

    Personally I don't mind the idea of tilting the compass a few degrees (magnetic north never ends up being north) but I think rotating 45ยบ is a bit too much.

    To get other "woodsy" feel to it maybe do some experiments with wood cuts or other organic forms (without going too nouveau).
