Why is everyone recommending not getting a zoom? If that's what I had to start, my camera would have never left my home.
Personally, I'd find a deal on a DSLR with a zoom, something you can add good lenses to later (and keep them as you upgrade).
Most important thing is to get out and shoot. Have fun. Practice and learn. I'd get that zoom so you aren't limited in what/where you shoot.
- having a prime lens doesnt 'limit' you at all. if fact, iit will force you to think more about your compositiondesmo
- just saying it would have limited me - I liked taking landscape shots, then a portrait, etc., without having to know about lensesformed
