And, "Can I believe it?" Yes, I can.
This is the root of what I found disgusting and hypocritical in the American administration's response to the BP Deepwater disaster - it was merely happenstance that it was a 'foreign' company that was caught out. On any other day it could have been any of the other oil companies out there, pushing limits and flouting regulation. Limits that were pushed not merely by begrudging permission, rather actual express promotion, faciliation and endorsement. Regulations that were essentially quashed by the Minerals Management Agency - an agency specifically left-be by Obama, as appeasement to the Right.
It's almost suss how the whole thing panned out - the demi-sacrifice of a non-US interest to make a political point. I don't believe that, of course, but it does ring a bell as an idea.
