Im not a big fan of the R8, you are limited to the built in sounds,, and i thought the sounds were a bit thin..once again i would go akai.. what kinda music are you doing.. that could make a difference too... i do more downtempo and sometimes darker tribal trchno trance(its hard to describe) and the Akai is great, but doesnt really serve my needs for the style of music i do. The akai is grat because you could sequence your k station with it, i used to play live with my mpc2000xl with my keyboards and synths, and stuff.. its cool for that too...once again if i had a choice now i would get the cheaper more compact newer one..
