i don't know who here has started using Flipboard?!
that's if you've been able to add your facebook/twitter to it- the flipboard servers are at full capacity trying to keep up with the demand.

the question i asked earlier in this thread is - why do they need servers? doesn't the app talk directly to the social networks?

seemingly (after taking a glance at the terms of service) your facebook/twitter login details are stored on their servers and they go and collect the feed data for you and then the app goes and gets it from their servers.

that might be great to aid speed and data organisation. however there must be a reason for these guys to invest heavy money in that infrastructure but give the app away for free. i have a pretty strong feeling they'll able to sell all sorts of information about their users at prices that will more than cover their server costs!

but of course none of this is clear to the user when they download the app or unknowingly enter their details. delightful.

    • I'm guessing they keep a cache of the content to ensure they don't show you only the last 1000 updates or whatever from every service.foobaz
