I've had the 50mm 1.8 for years, it has always been the lens I used the most.

A few weeks ago I picked up the new 35mm 1.8, and I've barely used my 50mm since.

So far, I've found the 35mm to be as sharp as the 50mm, and the extra width is great. If I'm headed out for the day and I only want to bring one lens, I'll choose my 35mm over the 50mm every time.

Also worth noting: In my experience, all lenses that have been produced wider than 35mm are going to be softer. Of course, photographers who need to go wider are usually content with some loss of sharpness. As long as you don't expect the 24mm, 28mm or 20mm lenses to be as sharp as the 50mm or the 35mm.

    • unless it's the 14-24jaylarson
    • Oh really? I haven't tried that one. As sharp as a 50mm prime?nb
