Utterly fascinating article about the role of Japanese organized crime (The Yakuza) in that countries post WW2-Present politics and financial system. It's often been said over the 20th century that whatever the future, Japan got there first, and I think this might be true. As we see the takover of American politics by corporations, as Mexico & Brazil devolve in their own ways into narcostates (or narcostates enclaves) this read of how crime operates within the halls of legitimate state power from Japan might show us a little bit of how the future is about to play out.
