Sounds like you're having a serious Dilbert moment in that office.
Web Apps = products, doesn't matter if they're web-based or not. If they're being sold (or given away, I suppose) and consumed, they're products.
Interactive marketing = marketing. Just like a TVC. Just like a radio spot. Just like a poster. Just like someone giving you a takeaway swag-bag.
You can do some interactive marketing for your web-based product if you like, but the terms are not mutually exchangable; one != the other.
