I worked at an agency where the studios designer's-work began to look similar. One accused another of ripping. There might have been some unconscioussness, there. Everybody was getting inspired off everybody elses work, and testing their own execution towards a trend. Assimilation is a condition that happens in a subtle way when you see design trends and they influence you, while being creative. Blatant rips are nothing like campy, humor-oriented goof-spoof imitation.
