I've had the permalink issue before where it just looks like it's constantly saving a draft post and doesn't show the permalink but I didn't ever get any errors while it was happening.
Not had the issue so much since updating to 2.9.2 but I always assumed it was something to do with how shit Media temple (my hosting) were on the day it was happing rather than a WP issue.
