You do get paid for showing up; or at least I did. I was paid for the day as well as mileage for driving to the courthouse. I was requested to come in for federal grad jury, which is a 1.5 year term. I would get paid for each day I was there (3-5 days, every 6 weeks), plus my normal job.
I wasn't selected because I'm moving out of state.
That being said, you should do it. It's very interesting to listen to the cases; and depending on the type of jury you're on, you help decide the fate of the accused. I would want some motherfuckers to take that seriously if it were me in that chair.
