The iPad is the perfect device for Flash development: one size screen, one resolution, not that many ways of getting past those measurements. We all know that many of the reasons for not allowing Flash on this device is mostly financial. I don't know much about HTML5, Canvas and so forth, but it sounds like back on the day when developers/designers use to give thought to the idea that a lot of people out there didn't have the Flash plugin. HTML5 sounds "that" complicated to me.

The reason I asked on this thread about what it means to a Flash developer is because I was curious about what most are thinking to do with how to approach this "market". I was one of the people waiting eagerly for CS5 to look into develpment for the iPad/iPhone devices, but now we're just stuck with exporting for HTML5 from Flash CS5.

I hate the thought of different approaches for building applications for the iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Android... just like the thought of checking websites for IE, Firefox, Opera, and like doing so with Netscape back in the day.

... Talking about pushing the limits. I remember a couple of years back, back when some people used to implement those chromeless windows and Flash with the thought of web pages looking more like an stand alone app than a regular site. Maybe we need to do that again: create websites that act more like apps so people can start enjoying content on this device outside of the AppStore/iTunes environment.

It's a shame that we are going to miss out on all of those years of Flash goodness because a company doesn't want to play along and give us the full web, but instead, plan for "us" to re-build the web "for them" "their way" again just to create one's device revenue. This sounds nuts!

I'm still curious as to hear some more especifics as to what developers are going to do with this scenario :)

Thanks everybody for the comments on this thread, very interesting!

    • two steps back - one step forward, this isn't really about html5 thoughkingsteven
    • ... cs5 would create apps that run at near native speeds... both flash player and html5 canvas are limited in comparisonkingsteven
    • zombo.com means something because it does nothing... would it exist without flash? no. could it get in the app store? no. Apple are killing creative entrepreneurshipkingsteven
    • Apple vs Adobe = Apple vs Zombo!
