Yea haha, let's go back to all the policies pre 1861, I'm sure it will be a blast. I bet those policies totally translate to the modern world. How laughable of me to think otherwise.
Cut all this pro/anti government back and forth, and you're left with the major fiscal problem facing the U.S., the deficit. Funny thing is we can actually put a serious dent in it by raising taxes on the top income brackets just slightly. But instead of unifying around that simple, common sense way to solve the problem, we get all this vague or downright delusional ranting about how we need a flat tax system, now of all times.
Nevermind that there isn't a major industrialized power in the world that runs everything off a consumption tax as John Diggity (and Mike Huckabee) would have us believe is the way to go. Fuck it, let's go for broke - let's try some completely unfounded, bullshit idea just for the hell of it right when we're on the brink of going bankrupt. Yar!!!
