    Unfortunately, you need to license commercial music because technically they need to be paid a royalty every time their track gets played, regardless if it's at a hockey game or on the radio. Most publishers would offer a synchronization license which could range anywhere from $0 to thousands of dollars. Yes, even for a non-profit thing...

    That being said, if you want to take the legal route, step one by far is getting consent from the musician or whoever holds the copyright to that music. Sure, you could likely get away with using it, but it's as legal as using a professional photograph on your personal website.

    Technically, you're not charging for your work, the video wont be sold but you said "promotion" yourself - you're using someones work to promote something without compensating that person for their work. That wouldn't stand up in court.
