Whenever people bring up getting rid of Social Security and replacing it with private investment I automatically envision that they live in a rural area. Every city in this nation is teeming with broke ass people that are living check to check. If you didn't take Social Security out of their checks there would be no money being put aside at all.

    • You don't care that at it's current rate SS will eat up some 40% of the entire fed budget in some 20 years time?mathinc
    • You're right, just keep heading for that ice berg we can't make any changes here.. full steam capt.mathinc
    • pay more taxes. Sometimes a modern nation needs to deal with their problems.DrBombay
    • I pay the same tax rate you do, I imagine. Probably more because of the state I live in.DrBombay
    • Yeah that's the answer. Pay 40% of the budget to fix what problem? How about we start raising a culture of people whomathinc
    • are taught to save and not borrow? Or this one might appeal to you, how about we pay into our own accounts andmathinc
    • gov doesn't get to play banker with the money we put in. Like it or not this is a crippling system and 'more taxes' means moremathinc
    • poverty and more access to the money we earn by faceless unaccountable people. I live in California and I'm going to assumemathinc
    • assume that I pay more in taxes. Plus, January was an extremely good month. I'm still tired from January.mathinc
    • How do you propose we teach the citizens to save more, when double digit percentages are on food stamps?DrBombay
    • Double digits are on food stamps OR are they getting unemployment checks. I think you're being dramatic.mathinc
    • I think you are being impractical. Poor people exist.DrBombay
    • I understand this fact. How about this, if you're so keen on paying 40 - 50 taxes why don't you go ahead and chip off an extramathinc
    • 20 - 30 percent of your paycheck and go give it to a shelter every month? Get a head start.mathinc
    • You'd actually be doing more good by cutting out the gov middle man. Put your money where your mouth is, literally.mathinc
    • Or do you just like telling others how willing they should be to give their own money away? In a word, idealism.mathinc
    • You have no idea what I donate to charity in a year, don't be so smug.DrBombay
    • You have a one track mind. MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEYDrBombay
    • But do you live off of 50% of your salary? I'm not being smug I just think that if you're proposing something then I really hopemathinc
    • you're ready to live what you preach. Good for you if you do give that much. Hats off to you.mathinc
    • Even though you like to paint that picture of me Rick, it's not true. I think you'd like me if you got to know me. Just because Imathinc
    • don't trust gov to handle fiscal responsibilities doesn't mean that all I care about is money. I'd be perfectly fine if the money Imathinc
    • paid in taxes was actually used in a positive manner. But in the end I'd rather have control of where my money goes. I don'tmathinc
    • There is no other option than taxes. Our country is 9 trillion in the hole as it is. Taxes must rise.DrBombay
    • trust government in the slightest. I'm not hiding that. I'd rather my money stayed local, helped those who REALLY need it. I'm fine with paying taxesmathinc
    • There is no solution besides Social security. Unless everyone is OK with tons of homeless people.DrBombay
    • fine with paying taxes.. I just don't like who I'm giving it to or what's done with it.mathinc
    • Rick, solving deficits doesn't always mean raising taxes.. it means spending less. Giving businesses the tools to increase profitsmathinc
    • profits and in turn pay more into the system. Instead it's becoming increasingly stifling to actually run a successful business.mathinc
    • You think a cow can keep producing milk when they're given less and less grass to produce that milk?mathinc
    • Your answer is more, mine is less so we can create more. Yours is unsustainable mine isn't.mathinc
    • What should businesses be "given"? Isn't that socialism?DrBombay
    • If you don't think there is a threshold in which too much taxation impedes growth then you might not be thinking clearly.mathinc
    • I said 'given tools'.. nice strawman there Wizard of Oz.mathinc
    • Since Reagan, who cut almost all regulation, the deficit has ballooned.DrBombay
    • You think spending is going to decrease and live in a fantasy world. Sorry but who are these politicians who support cutting spending?DrBombay
    • spending?DrBombay
    • I know the word 'profits' is an evil word to you.. but profits create jobs, they create opportunity for everyone, theymathinc
    • Obama proposes PAYGO, all the cons cheer then oppose it the next week. Makes no sense.DrBombay
    • promote growth. I always get the feeling that you think we should all simply break even and give the rest away.mathinc
    • Profits is an evil word to me? You don't know me at all Tommy. You just called Goldman Sachs the devil but somehow I think profits are evil. You are a dipshit.DrBombay
    • somehow I think profits are evil. You are a dipshit.DrBombay
    • This conversation has nothing to do with current politics, it's an ideological conversation we're having here. Reducing regulationsmathinc
    • You are the whore that travels between the two villages. Have cake/eat it too. I'm done with notes in the 40'sDrBombay
    • regulations has little to do with the deficit. Decreasing gov spending does.mathinc
    • Great now I'm a cake eating whore because I disagree with you? Honestly you can't handle it when someone doesn't believe what you do.mathinc
    • what you do. You turn to name calling and childish bullshit. There is room for different opinions Rick. It's natural.mathinc
