    I read this yesterday, and I think it's bullshit.

    It's a decent argument - and many of the points make sense - but, an essential initial point is ignored. Safari is a standards compliant browser, IE6 never was.

    The point for me, is that the iPhone browser tries to bring a desktop browser experience to a mobile device - which is why it provides such an effective and compelling experience. Other phones don't do this as well (with the exception of Opera's mobile browser perhaps).

    Maybe development for the iPhone, does mean that other smart phone browsers might be ignored - but only in the same way that developing for the _desktop_ means that other smart phone browsers might be ignored.

    I think the Guardian is actually a bit out of line here - they're basically re-blogging. It's sloppy journalism imo.

    I think the quirksmode author is putting personal annoyance above reason.
