"i used strictly illustrator til 3 days ago and now im using modo a 3D app. finally!!"

I'm still undecided about whether to go into proper 3D. Its a lot to learn, I'm behind the game, and I'm not sure it will be cost effective for my sort of work.

Book covers are book covers and they don't pay a great deal. If I offer 3D work, I know I would get a load of commissions for book covers, but they will still only pay peanuts and frankly I don't want to get into the situation where they really want me to give over a large portion of my time creating 3D artwork for the same fee as I get for doing it in Photoshop.

Advertising would be a better market and I do advertising work too, but lately that's become a saturated marketplace full of 3D monkeys and the prices have dropped as a result. The results from a 3D app are far superior, but often my clients just want something done quicker that they can see earlier and that will be printed on newsprint for one day only, therefore photoshop remains quicker, cheaper, and in many ways more flexible.

I'd really love to get into 3D but I'm sure what the purpose would be for me other than a stylistic offer. That's what worries me though... styles go quicker than they come so its a lot of time and money to invest in a rapidly changing area of 'style'.
