I played alot of sports as a kid. Baseball, football, basketball, soccer... I was on a team almost all year round for the majority of my childhood. I threw 3 no hitters, I have 3 trophys for soccer, and 4 for long distance running.

As soon as I claim to be anti- sports I get called, "gay", "weak", "stupid". "jealious", and a dictator of all things. And that is exactly why I got out of sports. The average mentality is ignorant. Sure, its not all but its most I've encountered, and I got out because I had deeper interest.

Growing up my heros weren't corporate athletes. My heros were family, friends, and teachers. I was inspired by the accomplishments that had some impact on society and a cause. A guy who threw the longest touchdown, or who can jump the highest means nothing to me more than a beer commerical. I rather buy a book written by a well writer instead of a jersey with somebody elses name on it.

Yes, athletes work hard but that doesn't mean they deserve more income than a rocket scientist. Sports are over rated and promote greed and ignorance all in the name of stategic ways to move around that ball. The kids playing at the local ball park are what the "game" is, this other thing is filler between the Blockbuster commercials. I see no game here, just a hope to make even more money next year and have some more suckers willing to wear the right colors and pay 9 dollars for another beer.

I am removed because its considered some precious accomplishment to know what team won the 1976 superbowl more than it is to know all of the 50 states of America. We have so much poverty and problems in this society yet we are willing to not only over pay but encourage giving this cash cow more praise.

So I tire of the attitude it promotes and the leeway that is given to a meathead in this country. So be it. In this search for identity in life you tend to cling on to things that best represent you and your beliefs and I do not relate to what sports try to convey. I have no interest in anything it tries to promote or sell me. The game isnt what ruined it for me its the players and most of the fans.
