Your question is kinda nonsensical as it's the telephoto lenses that deliver blurry background (and a few other factors) but definitely not wide angle lenses. I think you know enough about photography yet for the need to spend $$ thus if i were you i would stick with what came with your camera kit and keep on education yourself about f-stops, shutter, focal length, white balance etc. And only then you can make an educated decision yourself. And yes, Sigma makes fine lenses on par with Canon (but cheaper).
