Well if you are optimizing a site for SEO the relevance is to pay attention not just to the high traffic key phrases but many more that get a few hundred or even a few dozen searches a month. Targeting those phrases isn't easy and doesn't make sense for all kinds of sites but if you are able to do it you can get a lot of natural search traffic.
