ok, not to rain on you or anything, but honestly, there will always be updates to computer. With apple, it's inevitable.
second, have you looked at a g5? Technically speaking, i'm fairly sure that the g5 is fairly far off into the future for a laptop. (ie: NOT xmas).
my advice: get what you need now, macs always have a good resale value. after all, it's only a tool and if you're doing really heavy work on a laptop and NEED the power, get a desktop instead.
