    Do your lens flare on a pure black file thats the exact same size as your artwork. Then copy and paste it as a layer over your artwork. Set it to screen, then dupe up a second one over the top of it and set it to overlay at about 30%, but directly affecting the layer below only.

    Mess about with the settings until it looks right.

    Or, alternatively, just don't ever use lens flare.
