we used panasonic AG-dvx100b (i believe) and a ton of lights. You can rent cameras from local camera shops, probably around $200 a day depending on what camera you use, but anything that isn't HD is pretty much worthless these days. Also, an interesting side note is that panasonics video codec is compatible with apple/quicktime. Whereas Sony's video is not. So don't use a Sony if you use a Mac, and vice versa, unless you have access to one.
