I started with an EOS rebel then started doing video and bought an HV30. Got into 35mm adapters and of course got the 5DM2. I use Nikon and Canon lenses and very happy with the results. I think I read somewhere that Nikon for Action shots and Canon for stills. I really don't care who likes what or who says which is better.
Do your research and buy which fits your budget and you are more comfortable with.
