I never knew what a panic attack was. I grew up with a brother who had schizophrenia, so I was always afraid of going crazy like him and bringing the stress that my family faced.
When I was 14 I was hit with a feeling of anxiety and thought I was going crazy. It was the hardest summer of my life, plus moving to a new city and new school. So I would get episodes of panic attacks that summer, but it eventually went away when I started high school and had other distractions.
When I was in college I realized I wasn't going crazy and found out what was happening was that I was getting panic attacks. That I wasn't actually going crazy.
Did some research on it, and learned to relax by meditating and breathing excercises. It really helped me when I found out that I was getting panic attacks and not going crazy.
