Pick up motion it will really enhance your outlook and hopefully your projects, I began with AE version 4 and have used it since and when motion came out I embraced it and began to learn it as well, both packages are great, I would say that motion despite it's complete and utter unreliability and rediculous performance when handeling text, compliments an edit suite and AE really well. Often I will bang the meat of an animation out in motion then pop a few things from AE onto the animation and vice versa, it's all about integration and using the tools which get the desired effect. I never saw motion as a competitor to AE rather an accomplice.
