I think you might be trying to do too much with a page which is essentially very simple. I'd go for using the space and simplicity more rather than trying to fill it in with gradients and extra graphic bits. Its looking a little disjointed as a result.
The second part of the page; have you thought about reworking the 4 big features so that they run in a list, one on top of the other, in teh fisrt 3 columns of the page, and taking the strapline things from the bottom and laying them out in the 4th? - I think it would bring that area more structure, and allow the straplines more prominence
