my suggestion is document it and keep a record. this is probably an isolated case but you should definitely report it on the site and if it was to happen again, call the cops.
and tell your wife not to make a big deal about it at work if she can just keep it quiet. last thing you want is for this perpetrator to get all pumped up about how great his/her scam worked and continue with the activity. because this is the work of someone who is clearly not right in their mind. sounds scary, but it's better to be cautious. good luck and don't freak out.
