I wish America would somehow restructure the food service industry to follow the Asian model (except for maybe health codes). Pay living wages and incorporate whatever increases you need to into the cost of the items. A tip isn't a tip if the server is getting paid under minimum wage and needs your tip to survive. Places like Starbucks pay a relatively fair wage and provide benefits. I'm not going to tip there unless the server is particularly nice.
I love not having to tip in China and Thailand, and it's not just because I'm cheap.
