Chain, counter-service organizations like Starbucks or McDonalds should neither require or impose upon the customer to tip. The hardest these people work is to hit a couple of fucking buttons, swirl a cup around and more frequently than not put up with some douchebag having special needs. I will -never- tip these people...

That being said, if I were to walk into a coffee house where the atmosphere was more of a dining establishment or bar (ie: being waited on) I would have no problem tipping. I worked in food service for a number of years and can tell you from firsthand experience those jobs can be both taxing physically and mentally stressful (think carrying huge trays of food and putting up with the most ridiculous requests).

    Fuck tipping at a Starbucks.

    • *er..
People working in a restaraunt are generally WORKING for tips... not just expecting handouts on top of hourly wages
